OPENING LAB GUIDE

Designing AND, OR, and tag-based goals

Model multi-piece combinations and groups of interchangeable starters.

01

The questions AND and OR answer

AND succeeds when every selected goal is present at least once, such as three distinct combination pieces. OR succeeds when any selected goal is present, such as interchangeable one-card starters. With only one goal, AND and OR produce the same result.

02

Card targets and tag targets

Card mode evaluates the exact checked entries. Tag mode groups differently named cards by roles such as starter, resource, or payoff. A multi-tag card can satisfy several tag-AND conditions at once; if one physical card cannot perform both roles in the real procedure, split the condition.

03

Combinations and desired copies

Use card AND for three unique pieces, or three role tags with AND when each piece has substitutes. Use OR for several independent starters. Desired target copies is separate: it asks for exactly that many matching cards in hand even when the minimum success condition differs.

04

Audit overlapping counts

If adding overlapping tags raises the rate more than expected, check whether one card now satisfies multiple conditions. Test a tiny deck whose boundary should be exactly 0% or 100% before trusting a complex list.
